Adding an alias to your Microsoft email account
The Windows Live email service (also known as Penn Law Live) is a web-based email account provided by Microsoft that was once offered to Penn Law students and alumni. Although Microsoft has continued to provide this service after they retired the Windows Live brand name, some alumni have reported suddenly losing access to their accounts.
We recommend that all Windows Live users follow these steps as soon as possible in order to ensure continued access to their email accounts:
- Go to https://account.live.com
- Log in as [username]@alumni.law.upenn.edu:
- Click on “Your info” in the blue navigation bar
- Click on “Manage your sign-in email or phone number”
- Under the account aliases options, locate the secondary alias (@hotmail.com/@live.com/@outlook.com), or click “Add email” to create a secondary alias.
- Type in a name for your new outlook.com alias and click “Add alias”
- Click on “Make primary”
The above step will switch your secondary alias to be your primary alias. Going forward you will need to login to your webmail account using the new primary alias.
If no secondary alias is listed, then click “Add email” and create a new @outlook.com alias. Then promote the new secondary alias to become the primary alias.
IMPORTANT: Please send your new primary alias to itshelp@law.upenn.edu so we can update your address in our forwarding system.
