The University of Pennsylvania boasts one of the nation’s broadest and deepest concentrations of scholars working at or near the intersection of law and philosophy. This breadth is richly represented at the Institute, whose 17 faculty members – more than half of whom have earned both a JD and a PhD – hold principal appointments in the Law School, the Philosophy Department, and at Wharton. The collective expertise of Institute faculty members ranges across the landscape of legal, moral, and political philosophy, covering such subfields as general jurisprudence, philosophy of criminal law, philosophy of tort law, philosophy of contracts, constitutional theory, democratic theory, liberalism, business ethics, bioethics, the ethics of war, distributive justice, racial and gender justice, global justice – and many more.
