Sharon Coghlan

Sharon Coghlan is Managing Chief Counsel, Commercial Banking & Finance, at PNC Bank, National Association, and has been with PNC for over 30 years.

Sharon leads a team of 17 lawyers and paralegals responsible for the delivery of legal services to PNC’s commercial lending and leasing businesses, commercial collection unit, and treasury management. Her practice includes advising, structuring, documenting, negotiating, administration and collection activities relating to secured and unsecured commercial loan and letter of credit transactions, development and oversight of the extensive forms used both internally and by external counsel, assisting with development of new products and services, providing training and development both for the legal team and the businesses, providing legal support for all aspects of acquisitions and divestitures by the commercial businesses, retaining and overseeing outside counsel and outside counsel legal expenses, and identifying, monitoring and managing legal risks relating to these businesses.

Prior to joining PNC, Sharon was an associate at Ballard Spahr LLP in the Business & Finance Group from 1983-1990, focusing on commercial finance, M&A and commercial transactions.

Sharon graduated cum laude in 1980 with a dual degree from the Wharton School and the University of Pennsylvania and received her J.D., magna cum laude, in 1983 from Boston University School of Law, where she was Managing Editor of the Boston University Law Review. She is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association.

Sharon is the Local Executive Sponsor for PNC’s Philadelphia/Southern New Jersey Chapter of WomenConnect, and a Vice-Chair of PNC Legal’s Diversity & Inclusion Council. She also is involved in the greater Philadelphia area in a number of capacities. She is an emeritus member of the Board of Trustees of Please Touch Museum.
