Marlon Q. Paz

Marlon Q. Paz specializes on financial regulation and regulatory enforcement, with over 25 years combined experience in senior leadership positions at the Securities and Exchange Commission, equity partner in major law firms, and teaching at elite law schools.
At Penn, Professor Paz teaches a course on Broker-Dealer Regulation. He regularly counsel brokerage and investment firms and their executives to manage complex securities laws, particularly in matters related to securities regulation, regulatory enforcement, internal investigations, examinations, and compliance. He also helps clients navigate acquisitions of brokers, dealers, and investment advisers.
Professor Paz is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a Council Member of the American Bar Association Business Law Section, where he has served as chair of the International Business Law Committee and as Vice-Chair of the Federal Regulation of Securities Committee. He is the former General Counsel to the District of Columbia Bar, the largest mandatory bar association of lawyers in the United States, a past president of the Hispanic Bar Association of D.C. and a former national vice president of the Hispanic National Bar Association.
Professor Paz earned a Juris Doctor from The University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School; an LL.M with distinction from Georgetown University Law Center; a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Wesleyan University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Trinity College.
