Waseem Moorad
Visiting Practice Assistant Professor of Law
Professor Moorad is a Visiting Assistant Practice Professor of Law and currently serves as the Acting Director of Penn’s Detkin Intellectual Property and Technology Legal Clinic.
Prior to joining the faculty at Penn Carey Law, Professor Moorad spent 15 years at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as a Primary Patent Examiner in the electrical and computer arts, and as a Supervisory Patent Examiner in the mechanical and petroleum technologies. During his tenure, he was also responsible for directly overseeing the professional growth of numerous junior patent examiners, across a spectrum of technical disciplines, by formally training them on the fundamentals of patent law and effective patent prosecution practice. Furthermore, on behalf of the USPTO, Professor Moorad traveled across the country to publicly speak and educate inventors, attorneys, students and faculty, technology transfer offices, corporations, and foreign diplomats about various aspects of intellectual property protection pertaining to patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
In addition to his past experience with the federal government, Professor Moorad has been a senior partner at the law firm of Kondori & Moorad, where he has represented clients across multiple jurisdictions in the areas of real estate, business, and estate planning. He has also been an active entrepreneur for the last two decades, as he has developed successful commercial enterprises in the industries of construction, sports, and information technology.
Professor Moorad obtained his Juris Doctorate at the University of District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law, and his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from George Mason University. He is currently admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, Massachusetts, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
