Lecturer-in-Law

Donyale Y. Reavis is an attorney who through Reavis Inc. provides holistic 360-degree counsel to foundation, entertainment and high net worth estate management clients across business and legal matters. From venture capital funded start-up entities, to charitable trusts and family foundations, Ms. Reavis provides legal and business consulting services to a bespoke lineup of clients in foundations, professional sports, and other mass media across twenty years of practice. Donyale has been called in on an array of oversight, program and wealth management-related support services, often at change or crisis inflection points in the life cycle of a charity, business or other asset vehicle.   Among her entertainment and professional sports clients, Ms. Reavis has advised, built and launched professional development, education and scholarship programs for acclaimed artists, athletes and respective professional sports leagues of the NFL, NBA, NBPA, and the IBF. She most recently designed and launched Off the Court, an NBA pension fund-supported retirement program for its professional basketball players transitioning to post-basketball life beyond the league.

Ms. Reavis has also stewarded a multi-million dollar endowed public foundation, the Core Scholars Foundation, a quasi-governmental partnership between the City and the School District of Philadelphia for more than a decade.  Under her leadership, CORE has raised and distributed more than $6M through its scholarship programs, built city, state and federal agency-funded partnerships and extended its brand across multiple media platforms, while increasing its endowment to more than $5M. Ms. Reavis graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Fels Graduate School of Government, receiving a Toll Scholarship, Presidential Woman of Color and Public Service Leadership awards upon graduation with a JD/MPA.  Licensed to practice law in three states and the District of Columbia, Ms. Reavis brings a wealth of expertise to managing transitions, navigating crisis, launching programs, and leading fiscal stewardship and change with integrity.

Ms. Reavis moved to Washington, DC following law school, initially as a Corporate and Intellectual Property associate with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP for three years, and later as a contract attorney in the Tax group of Sidley & Austin in New York where she edited the PLI two-volume Art Law treatise.  Prior to Reavis Inc., Donyale spent several years in fashion as chief operating officer and legal counsel for a venture capital funded start-up apparel company, as outside technology counsel to the Andrew Mellon Foundation, and briefly as a senior associate with Pierce Atwood, a regional New England law firm. Personally inspired by all-things-outdoors, among her charitable and arts related pursuits, Ms. Reavis is a co-founder of Spring Garden Pictures, a film production company created to encourage children to explore their world through nature. Donyale is a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® and has completed the Certified Private Wealth Advisor executive education designation with the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.  A longstanding member of the ABA Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries and Real Property, Trust & Estate Law section, Donyale has also run five marathons and visited twenty countries and a dozen islands.
