JD/MPA Government: Fels Institute of Government

The JD/Masters in Public Administration program prepares students to substantively connect the law and government in our society and our world. Graduates are well-equipped to assume positions of leadership not only in law and in government, but also in policy organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other organizations of influence.

Students can earn both degrees in four years (in certain instances, a student may be able to complete the program in three years if the student enrolls in summer courses towards the MPA). The MPA is a twelve credit course of study, including eight core courses and four electives. Typically, Fels will accept four Law courses as these electives, and Penn Law grants credit for four approved courses from the core curriculum at Fels toward the JD degree. Students also complete an additional four courses in the core curriculum.

Students apply separately to each department. Applications to the MPA program are welcomed contemporaneously with the Law School application or during the 1L year. The LSAT is sufficient for both departments; no additional testing is required.

Please note that courses taken at one of the school prior to matriculation in the other cannot be credited toward the second degree.
