Applicants to the three-year Carey JD/MBA Program must apply via an integrated application. Applicants should submit the JD/MBA application through Wharton’s application system, which includes the elements of the full-time MBA application plus a University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School supplement. Please note that there are no additional essays for the JD/MBA. Applicants should answer the two essay prompts in the Wharton application in relation to the dual degree rather than just the MBA.

Additionally, decisions are rendered for the integrated Carey JD/MBA program and applicants may not be considered for admission to one school and not the other.

In addition to submitting the JD/MBA application through Wharton’s application system, applicants also must register with the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) Credential Assembly Service (CAS). Please do not fill out nor submit the First Year JD application through LSAC. Applicants should arrange to have all transcripts sent to LSAC from each college or university attended and to have duplicate copies of the recommendation letters submitted through Wharton’s application system also submitted to LSAC. Applicants must send official test score reports directly to Penn Carey Law at the time of application; Penn Carey Law will not accept self-reported scores. Applicants to the Carey JD/MBA Program must apply during Round 1 or Round 2 of the Wharton MBA application timeline. Applicants to the program will be notified of interview invitations and admissions decisions according to Wharton’s timeline. 

Please note that the deadlines below only apply to Wharton. Materials are not due to the Law School by these deadlines; however, we encourage you to submit materials to LSAC as soon as possible to allow for processing times. 

Moelis Fellows and Wharton students are not bound by these deadlines but must have their applications submitted to the Law School by September 30, 2024 for Round 1 and January 31st, 2025 for Round 2. 

Applicants are encouraged to apply prior to matriculation in the Law School. However, since the first year of the three-year JD/MBA program takes place at the Law School, Law School students have the option of applying to the three-year JD/MBA program during their 1L year, during Round 1 or Round 2 of the Wharton MBA admissions timeline.

Given the unique nature of the program, applicants may not, after receiving an offer of admission, decide to enroll in one school and not the other (i.e., an applicant may not choose to only attend Wharton and not the Law School, or vice versa, after a joint decision has been rendered).

Current 1Ls are eligible to apply to the three-year or four-year JD/MBA program.

Current 2Ls are eligible to apply only to the four-year JD/MBA program. 

All current Law School applicants should follow the application instructions above and will indicate on the Wharton application whether they are applying to the three or four-year program.

All current Law School applicants are exempt from re-registering with LSAC and do not have to submit any materials to LSAC or CAS. 

Wharton students are eligible to apply only to the four-year to the JD/MBA program and only in the first year of their MBA.

To apply for the four-year program, Wharton students should apply directly to the Law School and fill out the first-year JD application rather than the Wharton application. For instructions on applying to the Law School, see the JD admissions page.

The application timeline for current Wharton students will still follow the MBA admissions timeline.

Admitted Moelis Fellows are eligible to apply to the three-year JD/MBA program the year prior to matriculation at Penn. Applicants may not apply to the Moelis program and the JD/MBA program simultaneously.

Moelis Fellows should apply directly to the Law School and fill out the first-year JD application rather than the Wharton application. For instructions on applying to the Law School, see the JD admissions page.

The application timeline for Moelis Fellows will still follow the MBA admissions timeline. 

2023-2024 Round 1 Application Deadline - September 30, 2023: Although the JD application may be released after the Wharton Round 1 deadline of September 6, Moelis Fellows interested in matriculating in fall 2024 may still be considered for Round 1 with a deadline of September 30. All materials must be submitted by this date, including the JD first year application and materials due to LSAC.
