About the Program

The Francis J. & William Polk Carey JD/MBA Program at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and the Wharton School immerses students in an accelerated course of study, preparing them for careers in law, public governance, investment banking, private equity, entrepreneurship, hedge funds, and much more. Between the second and third years, students gain valuable work experience in a law firm and/or corporation.

Students earn JD & MBA degrees in three years rather than the five years it would typically take to earn each degree separately – or the four years in the more traditional JD/MBA program that both Wharton and Penn Law continue to offer.

The Carey JD/MBA is completely integrated. Our students are not left to navigate 5 years’ worth of degrees in 3. Rather, by the unique structure of the program and the unwavering support and resources by both Penn Law & Wharton, our students receive an integrated course of study intersecting law and business during the duration of their tenure as joint degree students at Penn.

Penn is the place to study the intersection of law and business. The physical proximity of the two schools and the integrated JD/MBA curriculum, including its unique summer program and JD/MBA Capstone experience highlight this. Further, approximately 70 percent of faculty members at Penn Law hold degrees beyond the JD, and nearly half hold secondary appointments or affiliations with other Penn professional schools, departments, or centers. Wharton is the largest business school in the world, with more than 200 standing faculty in 11 departments, including finance, accounting, real estate, health care and more. Our JD/MBA retains all critical components of both the law and business programs and offers additional coursework taught specifically to the JD/MBA students.
