Rossman Thompson

Rossman D. Thompson Jr. is an Assistant Federal Defender with the Federal Community Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He has more than 27 years of experience representing indigent persons charged in a variety of crimes in federal court. In addition to representing his clients in criminal cases, Mr. Thompson has worked with high-risk offenders who are re-entering the communities in the Philadelphia area through the Board of Judges Supervision to Aid Re-entry Program (STAR). STAR is a federal program designed to assist high-risk offenders with their re-entry to the community with the goals of preventing recidivism and violent crime. In addition, Mr. Thompson has participated in panel presentations on issues related to Federal Re-entry sponsored by: the United States Sentencing Commission; the National Advocacy Center for the Department of Justice; the National Conference for Chief United States Probation and Pre-trial Services Officers; and the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

Mr. Thompson received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies from the College of Wooster and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Before he became an Assistant Federal Defender, Mr. Thompson served as a law clerk to the Honorable William F. Hall Jr., U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
