Kassem helps clients navigate complex reinsurance disputes involving rescission, underwriting and claims handling, environmental allocations, yearly renewable term treaty rate increases, fronting arrangements, sunset and commutation clauses, “follow the fortunes” and “follow the settlements” clauses, late notice, misrepresentations, and fraud.

He also represents corporate clients, domestic and foreign insurance companies, and state insurance departments in matters involving insurance insolvency and rehabilitation, including reinsurance recovery, direct payment and cut-through clauses, the proof of claim process, priority of claims, off-sets, and insurance pools.

Diversity, Equity + Inclusion Practice

Corporate clients, nonprofit organizations, law firms, and educational institutions retain Kassem to advise, counsel, and train on a wide range of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)-related issues, including the creation, implementation, and management of DEI strategic plans, committees, and programs; DEI-related legal advice; compliance counseling; internal assessments, including of workplace culture; DEI-integrated business and internal/external communication; DEI training on topics such as implicit bias and generational diversity; leadership development strategies; and human resource counseling and policy creation. Kassem also works closely with the firm’s labor and employment attorneys to advise clients on DEI- related matters.

In addition to advising clients on their DEI issues, Kassem has been a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession throughout his career. He develops and leads strategic initiatives to recruit, support, retain, and promote attorneys from diverse backgrounds in order to improve and maintain diversity.

Kassem also has a pro bono practice in family law, where he has represented clients in child custody and child support matters.
