Desa L. Burton is an Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property, at InterDigital. ounded in 1972, InterDigital designs and develops advanced technologies that enable and enhance mobile communications and capabilities. InterDigital is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware.
As in-house counsel, Ms. Burton works on intellectual property transactions relating to hi-tech research and development. In addition, Ms. Burton has experience in matters relating to, among others, patent licenses and assignments, trademark licenses and assignments, settlement agreements for intellectual property, publisher agreements, license and location agreements, independent contractor agreements, distributor/distribution agreements, indemnification agreements, and due diligence relating to intellectual property assets in corporate mergers and transactions.
Ms. Burton also has an extensive expertise in intellectual property and complex business litigation relating to patents, trade secrets, and other intellectual property. She has represented clients in litigation matters before state and federal courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and U.S. Immigration Court, involving technology relating to computer hardware and software, systems engineering, and product design.
Ms. Burton has additional experience as a Naval Officer having served nine years as a Surface Warfare Officer in various worldwide assignments in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve.
Ms. Burton is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D. 2004), Florida International University (M.B.A. 2001) and the United States Naval Academy (B.S. 1994). Ms. Burton is admitted to practice in Delaware, Pennsylvania and California, and before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central, Eastern and Southern Districts of California and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining InterDigital, Ms. Burton was an attorney in the intellectual property department of a national general practice firm and in the patent litigation group of a large international intellectual property firm. Ms. Burton’s other legal experience includes summer associate and legal services coordinator with Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and student intern with the Philadelphia Law Department's Division of Health and Human Services.
Ms. Burton is a member of the Veterans Bar Association and the National Bar Association.
