Court E. Golumbic is a Managing Director in the global Compliance Department of the Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., where he currently serves as the firm’s global head of financial crime compliance. In this capacity, he oversees a worldwide team responsible for coordinating Goldman Sachs’ efforts to prevent and detect money laundering, terrorist financing, securities fraud, bribery, government sanctions violations and other illegal activity. He is also responsible for administering the firm’s compliance with applicable anti-money laundering, anti-bribery and government sanctions laws and regulations. During his tenure at Goldman Sachs, Mr. Golumbic has served as co-head of the Operations, Technology, Finance and Services Compliance, co-head of Equities Compliance for the Americas, and global head of Compliance for the firm’s prime brokerage and clearing businesses.
Before joining Goldman Sachs, Mr. Golumbic was a Senior Managing Director in the global Compliance Department at Bear Stearns & Co., Inc. from 2002-2005, where he served as that firm’s global anti-money laundering officer.
From 1998 to 2002, Mr. Golumbic served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. As a federal prosecutor, Mr. Golumbic coordinated investigations and prosecutions involving money laundering, securities fraud, mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, weapons trafficking, child pornography, narcotics trafficking, and narcotics-related murder. He served as co-lead prosecutor in a series of narcotics trafficking and money laundering investigations involving senior Mexican cartel figures and the corrupt government officials and financial professionals who supported them. He also served as co-lead prosecutor on the nation’s first federal criminal securities fraud prosecution involving market manipulation via the Internet. Mr. Golumbic has participated in numerous jury trials in United States District Court and appellate proceedings before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
From 1993 to 1997, Mr. Golumbic served as Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Enforcement at the United States Treasury Department, where he specialized in financial crime policy issues affecting the then-Treasury law enforcement agencies, including the US Secret Service, the US Customs Service, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. While at the Treasury Department, Mr. Golumbic was seconded to the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering in Paris, France, where he served as Deputy Secretary.
Mr. Golumbic was an associate with the law firm of Richardson, Berlin and Morvillo in Washington, DC from 1990 to 1993, where he concentrated on securities-related litigation and SEC investigations. He was a litigation associate with the law firm of Jones Day in Austin, Texas from 1990 to 1991.
Mr. Golumbic received a B.A. magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1986. He received a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1990, where he served on the Virginia Law Review and the Virginia Journal of International Law.
