Duésan Tadiâc, a Bosnian Serb, was charged by the United Nations tribunal with crimes against humanity, violation of the laws or customs of war,and grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions of 1949. Tadiâc, 39, was charged with rape, murder, and torture of Croats and Muslims in and around Omarska prison camp in northwestern Bosnia during the spring and summer of 1992. Tadiâc was convicted of killing two policemen and of torturing and persecuting many Muslim civilians in Bosnia in 1992 and was sentenced to 20 years.
