This program traces the career of the first black appointed as a Supreme Court justice, through legal studies and private practice, where he concentrated on civil rights. It also covers his appointment to serve as head of the legal division of the NAACP, and his career as a Supreme Court justice beginning in 1967 and ending in the summer of 1991.
