Summary:

Since 1994, the Alliance for Justice has organized First Monday in an effort to bring attention to a critical public policy issue every year. The purpose of First Monday is to reach out to young people and inspire them to become activists for change. Every year on the first Monday in October, the opening of the Supreme Court’s session, First Monday unites student activists on college, university, and law school campuses nationwide to fight for social justice. Presents two case studies on the effects of the immigration reform act of 1996 on a legal immigrant facing deportation due to a criminal conviction and a political refugee seeking asylum.
