Annual event hosted by the Office of the Appellate Defender, a fundraiser for OAD and an awards ceremony at which OAD presents the Gould Award for Outstanding Advocacy to two of the most highly regarded advocates in the nation. As the highlight of the program, the two advocates argue an important contemporary constitutional issue before a mock United States Supreme Court. This case concerns a facial challenge to a statute affecting legal services organizations which receive federal funding. The Court is asked to consider whether it is constitutionally permissible for the Government to impose conditions on the receipt of public funds by organizations providing legal services to the poor. Resolution of this case involves analysis of the unconstitutional conditions doctrine viewed in the context of the attorney-client relationship.
