Spring OCI Symplicity Instructions

Step 1: Log in to Symplicity

  1. Visit the Symplicity website.
  2. Enter your username (your lawkey) and password on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. If you cannot find or remember your password, please contact us for assistance
  4. You may change your password once you log in by clicking on the “Profile” tab and then Password/Preferences.

Step 2: Upload your resume

Before you begin bidding on employers, you must upload a resume. The resume you upload will be the same resume that is sent to your selected employers, so please be sure that it is free from errors and in its final format. We encourage you to first have your resume reviewed by a CP&P counselor. If you have not yet had your resume reviewed, please email the document as a Word attachment to all-cpp@law.upenn.edu.

To upload your resume:

  1. Log in to Symplicity.
  2. Click on the “Documents” tab and then the “Add New” button.
  3. Label the document, click the Browse button to search for your resume on your computer, and click Submit.
  4. Symplicity will convert your resume to PDF format; please be sure to check your resume once it is uploaded to ensure that any formatting was retained during the conversion process.

Step 3: Enter your time conflicts

You must enter any time conflicts you may have on interview days (i.e. religious functions, child care, etc.) in Symplicity. Interviews are not scheduled when you are in class or within 15 minutes before and after a class. Please note that you only need to enter your conflicts for the dates on which you are seeking interviews.

To enter your time conflicts:

  1. Click on the “OCI” tab.
  2. Select the “Class Schedules/Conflicts” tab.
  3. Select the days/times when you are unable to interview.
  4. Click the “Submit” button.

Step 4: View and research participating employers

  1. Select the “OCI” tab at the top of your screen.
    • Make sure that the Employers/Bidding tab is highlighted.
  2. Next to Session, the drop-down menu should read Spring 2020 OCI.
  3. Next to Employers, the drop-down menu should read Show All.
    • This will provide you with a list of all employers who have confirmed their participation in the program.
  4. Click on Review next to each employer’s name to access information about that employer.

Step 5: Enter bids

Bidding will be open from 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 21 until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, January 23. During this period, you may enter and delete your bids at any time. While bids entered early during the period will be counted exactly as those entered near the end of the bidding period, we ask that you not wait until the last minute to avoid any system delays.

  1. To bid, click on the “OCI” tab.
    • Make sure that the Employers/Bidding tab is highlighted.
  2. Next to Session, the drop-down menu should read Spring 2020 OCI.
  3. Order your bids by entering a number in the right-hand column (1 for your first choice, 2 for your second choice, etc.).
  4. You may enter a bid for all of the employers you are interested in.
  5. Your default resume will be automatically associated with your bids.
  6. If you have uploaded more than one version of your resume and want a particular employer to receive a particular resume, select Review to the left of the employer name and choose the appropriate resume from the drop-down menu.

Please note that while some employers specify that they would like to receive additional student documents such as transcripts and writing samples, your resume is the only document that can be attached to your bids and that will be provided to the employer in advance of your interview. You should bring extra copies of your resume as well as copies of your transcript (when available), writing sample and reference list with you to your interviews.

Step 6: View your interview schedule

Preliminary interview schedules will be available at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28; final schedules will be available at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3.

To view your schedule:

  • Click on the “OCI” tab and then the “Scheduled Interviews” tab.
  • Make sure you choose the session Spring 2020 OCI from the drop-down menu.

Please note that interviews are assigned by Symplicity on a lottery basis according to your bid numbers; employers do not review resumes and pre-select which students to interview.

Step 7: Cancel interviews if necessary

All cancellations must be made by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30. After January 30, cancellations will only be permitted in the event you have accepted another job offer. If you have accepted another job offer, please email us at all-cpp@law.upenn.edu and we will assist you in cancelling your remaining Spring OCI interviews.

To cancel an interview:

  • Click the “Cancel” button to the right of the interview you’d like to cancel.
    • Please note that once you cancel an interview, it cannot be undone.
    • Accordingly, please be careful as you make cancellations to ensure that you do not cancel an interview you actually want to retain.

Step 8: Manage waitlists if necessary

If you were not assigned an interview with an employer that you would like to meet with, you may add yourself to the waitlist from 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28 through 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30.
