Doing research on a legal topic in the context of American history? Remember to check out the resources available through Penn's main library, in addition to Biddle Law Library!
The America: History and Life database is the definitive source for locating materials covering the history and culture of the United States and Canada. With material from over 1,800 journals going back to 1954, the database contains approximately 500,000 citations, with about 16,000 new ones added on an annual basis. America: History and Life serves as a sister database to Historical Abstracts, which has the same interface, but contains material covering the rest of the world.
By using the Advanced Search function, you can limit your search to particular fields, as well as publication types and historical period.
For those needing a quick history refresher or some guidance, the database also contains a chronological review of American history called the CLIO Notes. Short summaries of major events are provided along with key words, important names and topics that will help point your research in the right direction. The CLIO Notes can be accessed by clicking on the blue tab found in the upper left part of the database.
