L.A.W.S. - Law Admissions Workshop Series
Admissions deans from the country's top law schools, including our own Randi Garnick L'90, Director of Admissions here at Penn Law, will be participating in this new series focused on providing prospective applicants with information about legal education, the legal profession, and preparing for the process of applying to law school.  Workshops will be held in DC, NYC, Chicago, and LA from mid- July through early August.  Please feel free to share with your networks!  Click here for more information.

Alumnae Notes

Wendy Beetlestone L'93:  Beetlestone, currently a shareholder at Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller, where she is Chair of the firm's Education Law Group, was recently nominated by President Obama to serve as a U.S. District Court judge in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.  Read more here.

Margaret Burnham L'69: Burnham, a member of the faculty and founder of the Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project at Northeastern Law, was recognized by Harvard Law School Professor Randall Kennedy in his speech at Northeastern Law's commencement.  Prof. Kennedy urged young law graduates to find inspiration from her distinguished career.  Read more here.

Tanya Chutkan L'87:  More news from the federal bench!  Chutkan, currently a partner at Boies, Schiller & Flexner, was unanimously confirmed as a federal judge by the U.S. Senate on June 4, 2014.  She will serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.  Read more here.


Jennifer Evans Stacey L'89:  Evans Stacey was recently appointed Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Human Resources and Secretary at Antares Pharma, Inc. Read more here.

Joanna Visser Adjoian L'10:  Visser Adjoian, currently the Associate Director and Staff Attorney for Penn Law's Toll Public Interest Center, will be moving onto exciting new challenges outside of the law school.  She was recently awarded a fellowship from Echoing Green's Black Male Achievement Program (in partnership with the Open Society Institute) to launch the Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project in Philadelphia, a new non-profit that she co-founded.  Read more about her new role and nonprofit here.

Another Factor Said to Sway Judges to Rule for Women's Rights: A Daughter (New York Times, 6.16.14)
Judges with daughters are 7% more likely to support women's rights than judges with only sons.  According to a new study, this effect is most pronounced among male judges appointed by Republican presidents.

GoDaddy Prepares to Go Ahead with IPO (InsideCounsel.com, 6.16.14)
In its earlier days, Internet hosting and web domain company GoDaddy Inc. raised its profile with ads featuring attractive women; now several women attorneys - including Penn Law's own Nima Kelly L'87
, General Counsel for GoDaddy - are playing key roles in making sure the company is attractive to stockholders as GoDaddy prepares to go public.
