Academics

Curriculum

Our faculty challenges our students. The Law School’s collegial atmosphere makes them feel at home.

Core Principles

Cross-Disciplinary Approach

At the Law School, we recognize that the law is not isolated from other disciplines. An understanding and consideration of philosophy, psychology, economics, literature, business, and sociology are crucial to understanding the role of law in modern society.

Faculty

Our faculty is the core of the Law School. They are world-renowned scholars and first-rate teachers. They are accessible to students and their high academic expectations create an intellectual climate that is conducive to the study of law.

Student Life and Culture

Students bring their diverse backgrounds and viewpoints to the Penn Law academic community. Learning from your fellow students is an integral part of the LLM program. Sharing your experiences with one another provides valuable insights as you explore the role of the law in modern society.

There are a wide range of opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. Hallway debates with classmates or faculty, forum discussions about courses, and extracurricular organizations enhance your learning environment. Students learn from not only our faculty, but also fellow students, the librarians who help with your research and the staff who assist in planning and making the most of a student’s time at Penn.

We recognize that the law is not isolated from other disciplines. Our LLM students may take one course at any of the University’s many first-rate graduate and professional schools, including the Wharton School’s Business and Law Certificate program.

Robust Course Offerings

The Penn Law LLM academic program is completely customizable: you can concentrate in a particular field or you can take survey courses across a wide range of topics; you can choose all of your courses from the rich course offerings or you can augment those courses with study at any of the University’s fine graduate and professional schools.

In addition, we offer two LLM concentrations to focus your studies: the Intellectual Property & Technology Law concentration and the Global Security, Sustainability, and Human Rights concentration.
