Who Should Apply
The Institute welcomes applications from current undergraduate and graduate students, as well as working professionals with an interest in human rights. All students who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
The application for the 2018 Institute is available here. To apply, you will need the following:
- Completed online application form, linked above
- Application Essay - What is your interest in studying international human rights? (750 words)
- Academic Record/Transcript
- $50 application fee
The application deadline for “Early Notification” (response by February 1, 2018) is January 1, 2018. Students who apply by January 1, 2018 and are accepted will receive $200 off the program fee.
The final application deadline for all other applications is April 1, 2018.
The Institute is offering two full-tuition scholarships to eligible students. Selection will be based on financial need and the scholarship essay. The topic for the scholarship essay (750 words or less) is:
Globalization has highlighted the conflict between specific cultural norms and the idea of human rights as a universal truth. How can pluralism and diversity be reconciled with the traditional idea of the universality of human rights?
Interested students should apply normally, then email the scholarship essay and a brief statement of financial need in Word or PDF format to GIHR@law.upenn.edu.
The final deadline for scholarship applicants is March 15th, 2018.
