“Diversity is now both a business and moral principle at many businesses and has gained a sense of greater purpose and urgency during a time of racial tensions and COVID-related inequities in the United States and in the world. This purpose-driven leadership seeks the importance of stakeholder accountability rather than a limited shareholder accountability. Even before this moment of intersecting crisis, the influential Business Roundtable has put shareholders first. In an atmosphere of widening economic inequality and deepening distrust of business, this powerful group has redefined its mission.” - Rangita de Silva de Alwis, July 2020
