JD/MSEd Education Policy: Graduate School of Education

Students in the joint graduate program with the Graduate School of Education can earn a JD/MSEd in Education Policy. The aim of this program is to cross-train leaders who will assume high level positions in educational law and policymaking in both the public and private sectors.

Students can earn both degrees in three years. Penn Law gives credit for four relevant courses in GSE toward the JD to earn the MSEd, students must complete 10 course units along with a Master’s research paper; Law courses may count for four of these units.

Students apply separately to each department. Applications to the MSEd program are welcomed contemporaneously with the Law School application or during the 1L year. If applying to GSE while a first year law student, students need only take the LSAT. Otherwise, applicants must take the GRE for the GSE application and the LSAT for the Law School application.

Here is a typical track for completing the program.
