This past week Penn Law’s Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Team participated in the International Rounds of the competition in Washington DC. Out of over 550 teams from all over the world that participate in the Jessup competition, Penn’s team had a huge success, achieving the following results:
A team from Penn Law recently won the John L. Costello National Criminal Law Trial Advocacy Competition hosted by George Mason School of Law in Fairfax, Virginia.
Jonathan Kaplan L’16 and Catherine Eagan L’16 were the attorneys on the winning team, and their witness was David Hill L’16, who played the defendant in the case. Kaplan was also named Best Oralist for the competition.
Penn Law students will be competing for another national trial advocacy competition championship. Catherine Eagan (3L), Sam Griffith (3L), Nina Shaw (3L), and Jack Wray (2L), finished first on November 21-22 in the American Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law Miami Regional competition. The facts of this year’s competition involved a Family Medical Leave Act interference claim and a retaliatory discharge claim. The competitors’ performances were judged by practicing attorneys from the Miami region.
Congratulations are in order! 3Ls Greg Manas and Brian Springer won the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s Giles Sutherland Rich National Patent Law Moot Court on Friday. They defeated a ten-team field in the national championship round, which was held at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington DC. The final round was judged by a panel of Federal Circuit Judges.
