Kanyinsola Ajayi

Kanyinsola Ajayi comes to Penn Law particularly excited about tenants’ rights, the modern labor movement, and protections for a free press. She graduated from Ball State University, where she studied political science, journalism, and telecommunications. While in college, she was a student reporter for the school’s paper and radio station. She also served as a student government senator and on the executive board of her sorority, where she focused on executing the annual week of events. During her undergraduate career, she was selected as a National Leadership Fellow for Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Inc. and a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation intern in the office of Congresswoman Alma Adams.

Before law school, she was a strategic partnership manager at a political technology company. Her work focused on enabling Democratic campaigns and nonprofit organizations to mobilize their audience during elections. She also volunteered with various community organizing projects focused on housing and racial justice in the D.C. area. Her time canvassing low-income tenants about their rights inspired her to apply to law school.

At Penn Law, Kanyinsola is an associate editor for the Journal of Constitutional Law, co-leader of the Pardon Project, and a member of BLSA. She spent her 1L summer at Dechert LLP and will spend her second summer at Williams & Connolly.

With gratitude to the Black students who advocated for this scholarship to honor the legacy of Dr. Sadie Alexander, she is excited to be at Penn Law and strives to uphold her legacy.
