Alexa Salas L’24
Alexa Salas is a first-generation, Mexican-American, raised in Phoenix, AZ. She is committed to advancing social justice and equity for marginalized communities through public service, a passion that stems from her family’s own experience navigating the immigrant justice system.
Alexa is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she received her B.A. in Urban Studies in 2017. Upon graduating from college and with the support of the University of Pennsylvania’s President’s Engagement Prize, Alexa co-founded LanzandoLideres, an after-school leadership development program for adolescent youth at Puentes de Salud, a community-based organization serving Philadelphia’s Latino immigrant community. After three years of working to promote access to educational opportunities, Alexa came to law school to understand how law and policy can be used to advocate for the rights and advancement of communities with limited resources. She spent her 1L summer in the Employment Unit at Community Legal Services of Philadelphia, where she worked with low-wage and immigrant workers on cases of wage theft, employment misclassification, sexual harassment, and unlawful discrimination. She looks forward to developing her legal advocacy skills from an impact litigation perspective through externships at the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia and with the ACLU of Pennsylvania’s Immigrant Rights Project.
At Penn Carey Law, Alexa serves as co-president of the Latin American Law Students Association, and as a board member of the Penn Carey Law Immigrant Rights Project and the Inclusion and Engagement Student Advisory Board. Through these commitments, she aims to build a more inclusive community amongst her fellow law students, and to foster equitable partnerships and engagement within the Philadelphia community.
