Emily Lubin L’19
Emily came to Penn Carey Law to pursue a career working with individuals impacted by oppressive economic, racial, and carceral structures. Originally from Winter Haven, FL, she attended Tulane University, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in political economy and history. During her time in New Orleans, Emily was exposed to the massive inequities present in the criminal justice system through internships at Innocence Project New Orleans and the Orleans Public Defenders.
At Penn Carey Law, Emily has served as Associate Editor on the Journal of Law and Social Change and has volunteered with Penn Carey Law Advocates for the Homeless and the Pardon Project. She spent her 1L summer at North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services in Raleigh, NC, and spent her 2L summer with the Alaska Public Defender Agency in Fairbanks, AK. Emily was the Co-Chair of the Criminal Record Expungement Project. She was also a board member for the Penn Carey Law chapter of the National Lawyers Guild and the Moot Court, and as a Littleton Fellow, taught first-year students essential legal practice skills.
She is motivated by her desire to work directly with indigent clients to combat the punitiveness of incarceration.
