Penn Carey Law’s own Yoko Takahashi is featured in a WHYY news article on community improvement in West Philadelphia.

The article titled “Cobbs Connects: West Philly Neighbors work together to design new trail signage.” was published February 3rd, 2023, for WHYY’s ‘Feel Good Fridays’ event.

The article (which is accompanied by a radio interview on KYW 1060) discusses how a community of neighbors came together to create signs for a 3.7-mile trail through their West Philadelphia community.  They partnered with the West Philly based nonprofit organization “Tiny WPA” to bring their signs to life.

Yoko Takahashi has lived in the neighborhood since 2016 and began to utilize the trail during the pandemic. The graphic designer lent her expertise to design the signs based on input from local residents, with the hope they would inspire visitors to value the area.

“It’s a beautiful trail, but it’s underappreciated,” said Takahashi. “I see dumping along the trail pretty often and it’s disheartening, so I wanted to make improvements and raise the neighborhood morale”.
