The Law School offers a tight-knit and supportive community for veterans who choose to continue their public service by entering the legal field.

Every year, the students in the Penn Law Veterans Club arrange a series of events during the week of Veterans Day. The Veterans Week agenda, which this year runs from November 8 - November 11, both honors veterans and creates space for the Law School community to learn about military-related topics from their veteran colleagues and classmates.

The week-long celebration traditionally includes remarks from a keynote speaker, tours of the Law School for perspective students who are veterans, and panel events on subjects related to military service.

During the week, the Penn Law Veterans Club seeks not only to engage with current and prospective students who are veterans, but also to encourage members of the Law School community who are not veterans to learn from the experiences of veterans on campus. Historically, among the most popular events of the week is a panel entitled “I’m a Vet: Ask me Anything,” wherein members of the Law School community are invited to ask veteran students questions about military service.

“It’s really cool,” said Penn Law Veterans Club President Ryan Baldwin L’22. “The goal is to let people in the Penn community who don’t have a military background interact with people who have a past in the military or who are still continuing in their public service. The event lets them ask questions and get a feel for the value that the military experience brings.”

This year, the Penn Law Veterans Club partnered with the newly-formed Penn Law Veterans Alumni Association to plan a meet-and-greet for student and alumni veterans. Leadership in each of the groups expressed the hope that this event — and future collaborations like it — will help veterans in the Law School’s community form lasting mentorship and networking relationships.

Lieutenant General Stuart W. Risch, Judge Advocate General for the United States Army, will deliver this year’s keynote address. Law School students, faculty, and staff are all invited to attend.
