Lecturer in Law

Bret Grote is the legal director of the Abolitionist Law Center, a social justice and movement-building legal organization with offices in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh that challenges mass incarceration through client representation, community organizing, and public education.

He has counseled more than 40 civil and criminal cases with ALC in state and federal court, including 10 cases challenging solitary confinement and several efforts to challenge life without parole sentences. He is also a Professor of Practice at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
