Deciding where to go to law school was a difficult decision. But it is very clear that I made the right decision in choosing Penn Law. While many schools I was considering made great opportunities easily accessible, Penn offered superior opportunities and the people I wanted to work with—and I believe they have made a great difference in my legal education.

My first year of law school I learned that many of the principles learned do not exist in a vacuum and, very often, one’s experiences will impact your approach to solving problems within the law and its related fields. That is why diversity is valued at the Law School. The Law School is a true marketplace of ideas and my peers are a testament to that. They are among the most interesting, accomplished students in the country.

Yet, they are humble individuals who have managed to create an environment that is friendly and welcoming of all in the community.

As a Sudanese immigrant and person of color, I feel very much at home at Penn. Affinity groups like the Black Law Student Association offer wonderful support, and although I am active in BLSA, I never feel limited to getting to know only those who identify as I do.

Penn Law is a fantastic place because of the people who comprise it. Here, diversity is neither construct nor an insincere ambition, but a palpable trait that seems built into the fabric of the Law School.
