Diversity at Penn Law is not a buzzword, a statistic, or a picture in some admissions brochure. It is central to our school's identity. It is the bedrock of our collegial atmosphere.

I am extremely lucky that I landed at Penn because I did not prioritize diversity when choosing a law school. I had been in the working world for several years, and, without closeting myself, had developed a professional identity that was largely independent of my sexual orientation.

Law school, however, is not the working world. As a law student, I do not punch out at five o'clock and return to my other life. Instead I work in short spurts and take study breaks all day long. There is a fusion of personal life, social life, and work, and so it is crucial to have a strong community. At Penn, I not only feel accepted but no one has ever made me feel "different." We are all in it together.
