DIVERSITY AT PENN LAWAdriana Castellanos '11
Adriana CastellanosHometown: Miami, FL Penn Law embraces diversity in all shapes and forms. While students at Penn are extremely bright and have achieved success in all areas of life, they are also open to learn about and from others. I find that my peers are interested to know more about me and in return, I am interested to know more about them. This fosters a very vibrant and dynamic learning environment that is truly unique to Penn. My closest friends here all practice different religions, have different racial backgrounds, and were even born in different countries or grew up in different parts of the United States. Regardless, I do not forget who I am. I find that the Latin American Law Student Association (LALSA) has been a family away from home that helps me embrace my roots. This year, LALSA upperclassmen provided 1Ls with books, studying advice, and even a Cuban pig roast to help us get through the year. Other minority student organizations do similar things for their members and most importantly, all the organizations encourage the entire student body to join in on their activities and festivities. I believe our diversity has made our law school environment very enjoyable and the study of law much more interesting. I truly believe our diversity creates a better kind of lawyer; one suited to practice domestically and globally, as well as work with all types of clients and fellow attorneys. |
