Hometown:

Hackettstown, NJ

Class Year:

2009

Prior Education:

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering – Rutgers University; B.A. in English – Rutgers University

What I Am Hoping to Do With My Law Degree:

Using both my technical and liberal arts backgrounds in the practice of intellectual property law.

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

The Law School prom!

Professor Who Influenced Me Most:

Professor Catherine Struve, who taught the first class I attended as a law student (Civ Pro) and introduced us all to the Socratic method. It's great to watch her go into litigator mode in class, and it kept everyone's attention on the class.

My Favorite Course:

Introduction to IP with Prof. Polk Wagner because I had been interested in the subject before coming to law school, and he did a great job giving us a good overview of all the main components of IP law.

Meaningful Cross-disciplinary Experience at Penn:

As part of the Penn Law Mentoring Program, I sat on a panel that discussed different paths for students with engineering backgrounds, and answer undergraduate students' questions regarding going into law.

Penn Law is known for its collegial environment. Why is collegiality important to a legal education? How has it affected your legal education?

Collegiality is important because the law school experience is stressful enough without the ultra-competitive atmosphere that having so many very intelligent and accomplished people in one place tends to foster. I've always felt comfortable approaching my fellow students for help and giving help in return, which I think is an important part of any learning process.

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

Having my first "real" Philly cheese steak with friends after a 1L bar crawl.

What I'm Most Proud Of:

Working part time as a Kaplan LSAT instructor during my 1L year.

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:

Penn Law Mentoring program, APALSA, Law Review

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

The Graduate Student Center, where I can study with friends in a low-key atmosphere and chat without disturbing others, and the free coffee doesn't hurt either!
