STUDENT AND ALUMNI PROFILES![]() Genevieve ScottHometown:Wyomissing, PA Class Year:2009 Prior Education:BA English Language and Literature, Smith College 2006 Professional experience prior to Law School:I came straight to law school after getting my undergraduate degree. What I Am Hoping to Do with My Law Degree:I'm very interested in litigation and appellate advocacy. I would love to eventually be involved in Constitutional litigation in support of women's reproductive rights. My Best Experience at Penn Law:Over the summer, I interned with the Child Advocacy Clinic and had the opportunity to help write an appellate brief in support of a young woman asserting her rights in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Professor Who Influenced Me Most:Alan Lerner at the Child Advocacy Clinic is incredibly devoted to his clients and public interest work. His unwavering commitment is truly inspiring. My Favorite Course:My favorite course is Constitutional Litigation. The subject matter is extremely challenging and interesting, and Professor Kreimer is always enthusiastic- he never misses a beat. An Example of How the Law School's Cross-disciplinary Approach Influences My Legal Education:Our faculty exemplifies Penn's emphasis on cross-disciplinary education. Many of my professors are not only experts in a field of law, but also in a complementary subject. This not only enhanced the quality of their legal analysis, but also taught me to apply my experience and knowledge to the law. Meaningful Cross-disciplinary Experience at Penn:At the Interdisciplinary Child Advocacy Clinic, we work hand-in-hand with a social worker employed by the clinic to ensure that we are always working towards the best interests of children not adequately cared for by their parents. Penn Law is known for its collegial environment. Why is collegiality important to a legal education? How has it affected your legal education? The first year of law school, no matter where you choose to go to school, is inevitably challenging. At Penn, students support each other and work together. You can count on your friends at Penn to be there when you're having trouble with your appellate brief, to eat way too much Nutella with you before finals, and to coach you before your big interview. Because everyone at Penn leaves with phenomenal offers, students don't climb on top of each other to be successful. My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:Fitler Square and Rittenhouse Square have fantastic farmers markets every Saturday that I love visiting with my friends. (Try "grandma's zucchini bread"!) What I'm Most Proud Of:My proudest life moment was hearing that my younger sister told a college interviewer that I am the person she most admires. My proudest law school moment was being told by an admired professor that he thinks I will someday be a better lawyer than he is. My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:Co-Chair, Penn Law Women's Association; Penn Reproductive Health Clinic; Branch Leader Abstinence-Only Education Project; Member Judicial By-pass Project; Equal Justice Foundation, Member; American Constitution Society, Member. What I Did For Public Interest:Penn Law Reproductive Rights Clinic- Leader of the Abstinence-Only-Education Project doing research and lobbying; Penn Law Reproductive Rights Clinic- Judicial By-Pass Clinic; Civil Liberties Seminar- Constitutional research at the Philadelphia ACLU. My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:My favorite place on campus is the Courtyard. It's a great place to sit outside, get some sun, and have lunch with your friends. Will having great friends in law school make all the difference in the world?Yes. Will you find those friends at Penn?Yes! |
