Professional Experience Prior to Law School::

After graduating from college I worked for two years with the Congressional Youth Leadership Council as both a facilitator and associate director running youth leadership conferences in cities all across the country.

What I Am Hoping to Do with My Law Degree:

As I work towads my JD I'm also getting a Master of Bioethics so I hope to do something that involves an intersection of the two areas. I'm interested in everything from women's health to regulatory work to health law to general litigation. I'll have to see once I actually start working what clicks for me.

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

This fall there was the "Great Penn Pumpkin Carving Contest." Our CSR rep had the fantastic idea of starting this annual event and the administration responded incredibly positively, providing pumpkins, carving tools, hot apple cider, cookies, and prizes for the most impressive pumpkins. The pumpkins then sat on display in the courtyard until Halloween. It was a great way to take to a break from the books and do something totally silly and unrelated to law.

My Favorite Course:

I enjoyed my Privacy Law class because of the range of topics we were able to explore in the course, from Constitutional law to Tort law to federal statutes. I like that I can read the newspaper now and identify privacy law issues almost everywhere.

An Example of How the Law School's Cross-disciplinary Approach Influences My Legal Education:

I'm currently doing a joint degree in bioethics and I really appreciate how flexible the law school is in accommodating this program. I also love that everyone has the chance to branch out and take courses in other departments because I think it provides balance to all of our legal educations and widens the breadth of discussion in our law classes.

Penn Law is known for its collegial environment. Why is collegiality important to a legal education? How has it affected your legal education?

Law school is stressful enough as it is without feeling like you are in competition with others besides yourself. I knew when I was deciding on schools that I wanted a community that fostered a strong sense of respect and acceptance among students and that is certaintly descriptive of Penn's program.

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

Celebrating on Broad Street after the Phillies won the World Series. Woah.

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:

I'm a board member of the American Constitution Society, a volunteer with the Reproductive Rights Law Project, and Co-Chair of Penn Law for Reproductive Justice.

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

The Graduate Student Center gives you free coffee when you bring your own mug. For those of us on the slippery slope of caffeine dependence, this is an excellent, excellent thing.
