Hometown:

San Jose, CA

Class Year:

2014

Prior Education:

B.S. in Business Administration, UC Berkeley

 B.A. in Music, UC Berkeley

Professional Experience Prior to Law School:

I worked for five years at two different consulting firms in the Bay Area focused primarily on intellectual property matters.

What I Am Hoping to Do with My Law Degree:

I hope to work in IP strategy for a tech firm back in the Bay Area.

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

Spending time with my cohort, especially bowling with our faculty mentor (Professor Jonathan Klick).

Professor Who Influenced Me Most:

Probably Professor Jody Kraus (Contracts) because his cold calls require a deep understanding of the cases and will force you to make compelling arguments for both sides of each case, which I think is great training for “thinking like a lawyer.”

My Favorite Course:

I like both Contracts and Property. Contracts is great because I worked with a lot of license agreements in my jobs prior to law school, and this class has helped me see why certain clauses were included or were worded in a particular way. Property has been great because we discuss issues that everyone, not just lawyers, should be aware of. For example, we recently discussed tenant rights, which is a topic directly relevant to our lives, as most of us are renting apartments while in school. To be able to see a real life application to what we discuss in class really valuable

An Example of How the Law School's Cross-disciplinary Approach Influences My Legal Education:

I am in the three-year JD/MBA program and will start taking business classes this summer. I hope the combination of coursework at both schools will prepare me to understand how clients’ legal issues fit with respect to the general business they are facing.

Meaningful Cross-disciplinary Experience at Penn:

The JD/MBA program invites alumni to speak at monthly lunches. These talks have exposed me to a wide range of careers available to joint degree holders and have really motivated me to explore non-traditional career options.

Penn Law is known for its collegial environment. Why is collegiality important to a legal education? How has it affected your legal education?

Collegiality is so important because the law school environment can be very stressful, especially in your first year, and it is important to have supportive people around you. It is also great to have classmates who are willing to help you out and share notes, which doesn't happen at every school.

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

I don’t have a favorite moment, but my favorite Philadelphia activity has been shopping the Rittenhouse farmer’s market on Saturdays..

What I'm Most Proud Of:

Surviving my first snow storm.

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:

Penn IP Group (PIPG); JD/MBA Council; APALSA; Penn Law Women’s Association.

What I Did For Public Interest:

Penn Housing Rights Project. I also volunteered at the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Minority Law Day..

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

Eating at the food trucks on 38th Street..
