Hometown:

Brooklyn, NY

Class Year:

2009

Prior Education:

BA Political Science, Yale 2002

What I Did Before Law School:

I worked at TIME Warner in their consumer marketing department, focusing primarily on direct mail. After two years there I moved to Paris and worked as a corporate paralegal at Debevoise & Plimpton.

What I Am Hoping to Do with My Law Degree:

After graduation, I plan on doing transactional work at a corporate law firm but my dream job would be to work for a luxury goods or media company!

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

During my first year, my section had dinner at (Prof. Jason Johnston's) house. We spent over three hours at his home, watching football, having dinner and talking. It was great! It's rare to have your professor invite you into his home and get to know him outside of the classroom. The professor dinners are definitely a part of what makes Penn special.

Professor Who Influenced Me Most:

Prof. Johnston (contracts) – he's helped me understand the value of seeing an argument from both sides. For every problem we do in his class we have to analyze the argument and provide the counterargument. As a result, at the end of our analysis we have a broad perspective of the issue at hand. This is a skill that will be useful not only in my law school career but in my professional career as well.

My Favorite Course (with a brief why):

Torts and Contracts. I can't enter a store or read a document, even a receipt, without thinking "who would be liable if x, y and z happened" or "what would a reasonable person do? Am I reasonable person?" These two classes have shown me how the law is evident in various facets of everyday life.

Penn Law is known for its collegial environment. Why is collegiality important to a legal education? How has it affected your legal education?

Penn Law's collegial environment is one of the main distinguishing factors of the school. From day one, students were sharing outlines and willing to share their notes if someone missed class. Learning in such an environment allows you to learn in a more comfortable, not super competitive environment. It allows you to take time out to make friends, get to know your classmates and professors and not worry as much about grades. After all, law school is about more than reading cases and learning rules; it's also about interacting with your peers and participating in engaging discussions and debates. Penn Law's collegial environment facilitates this type of learning.

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

When my father came to visit, we both had our first stromboli! My second favorite moment would be going to a Sixers game.

What I'm Most Proud Of:

I'm not going to lie- in the beginning classes were stressful but challenging. I'd have to say I'm most proud of pushing myself to new limits

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:

Black Law Students Association; Post-Acceptance and Social Committee for CSR; Penn Law Women's Association

What I Did For Public Service:

During my first year I participated in the Penn Law Immigration Clinic working for a lawyer at a not for profit organization. As a second year student, I have joined the Prisoners Legal Education Clinic. We visit a local prison and teach the inmates about a variety of legal topics.

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

The area by the oval window in the Reserved Reading room in the library. It's nice to just plop down, look out the window and unwind for a little bit (or take a quick power nap!).
