What I Am Hoping to Do with My Law Degree:

I'm not sure yet what specific area of law I want to pursue, but I'm hoping to find an intellectually satisfying career that will somehow make people's lives better.

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

A couple of months in, my best experience is probably just all of the cool stuff that I've learned so far. Law school is really, really interesting (and not nearly as scary as people tell you it's going to be).

Professor Who Influenced Me Most:

All of my professors this semester are great. A group of students and I had lunch with Professor Stephen Perry, and I really enjoyed hearing about his experiences and interests. He is really accessible and excited about interacting with students.

My Favorite Course:

Again, it's a tough decision. I like Contracts a lot, because Professor Leo Katz is great at coming up with complicated, thought-provoking hypothetical situations.

An Example of How the Law School’s Cross-disciplinary Approach Influences My Legal Education:

As a 1L, I haven't taken any classes in other schools at Penn yet (although I plan to), but I've been impressed with all of the cross-disciplinary seminars and events the law school itself hosts.

Meaningful Cross-disciplinary Experience at Penn:

I was an Economics major, and it was exciting to realize that the things I learned as an undergrad were so applicable to the study of law. I had a really exciting conversation with my Torts professor in the first week or two of school where I learned to think about the Coase Theorem, a familiar concept from college, in a whole new way.

Penn Law is known for its collegial environment. Why is collegiality important to a legal education? How has it affected your legal education?

Law school can be stressful, and it really helps to be in environment where it's clear that everyone- professors and classmates- cares about you and wants you to succeed. From what I hear, that's something that's pretty special about Penn in particular. I had to miss a class unexpectedly, and I was touched that so many of my classmates noticed I was gone, checked to make sure I was ok, and offered to send me notes.

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

Top two: watching the world champion Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on a summer night and exploring the city's delicious (and inexpensive) BYOBs.

What I'm Most Proud Of:

Treating people with kindness and respect.

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:

This year, just the Penn Housing Rights Project.

What I Did For Public Interest:

Through the Housing Rights Project, I have helped attorneys represent low-income Philadelphia renters whose landlords have failed to provide them with basic housing rights.

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

Avril 50, the awesome coffee shop/international newsstand across the street from Penn Law.
