Jonno Boyer-Dry

Jonno Boyer-Dry

Hometown:

Winchester, MA

Class Year:

2013

Prior Education:

Wesleyan University, BA (Music)

Professional Experience Prior to Law School:

I worked as a wind energy developer for Pattern Energy and Babcock & Brown in Houston, Texas.

What I Am Hoping to Do with My Law Degree:

I intend to develop commercial-scale renewable energy facilities in developing countries, both to supplement existing electric generation and to expand access to reliable, clean energy in rural areas. The JD will facilitate my ability to navigate complex issues of international law and transactions, structure deals, and create innovative approaches to project finance in politically and economically challenging regions.

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

The best experience at Penn Law has been to learn from my amazing classmates’ diverse personal and professional experiences. I am blown away by their high professional and intellectual caliber and am thrilled that they are friendly, kind, and social people.

Professor Who Influenced Me Most:

Professor Balganesh has influenced me the most because his philosophical approach to property forces students to evaluate judicial opinions from the court’s underlying normative motivations. This way of interpreting opinions has helped me to contextualize and analyze the material in all of my courses.

My Favorite Course:

Torts is my favorite course because I enjoy experiencing the fluidity of the common law system and seeing how policy rationale shapes different decisions and outcomes for factually similar cases.

An Example of How the Law School's Cross-disciplinary Approach Influences My Legal Education:

In addition to abundant joint-degree and certificate opportunities, Penn Law frequently hosts cross-disciplinary seminars with leading scholars, attorneys, government officials, and business behemoths. This is a great way to apply the academic cross-disciplinary opportunities with current events and challenges.

Meaningful Cross-disciplinary Experience at Penn:

I have had the opportunity to work closely with the Wharton Energy Club to organize jointly-hosted events. It has been a great experience to grow the relationship between the Wharton and Penn Law energy communities.

Penn Law is known for its collegial environment Why is collegiality important to a legal education?  How has it affected your legal education?

The collegiality at Penn Law is REAL! Collegiality is important because your classmates will become your colleagues, friends, and as Dean Fitts instills in us, one will likely be your significant other and potentially your spouse. Law school is challenging, but is significantly enriched when you are surrounded by a group of wonderful, highly-motivated, kind people who are willing to support you. At Penn Law, this is not only characteristic of students, but also of professors and the administration.

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

When I realized that Capogiro, the best Gelato in Philadelphia, was only a block away from my apartment.

What I'm Most Proud Of:

Coming to Penn Law.

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:

Penn Law Energy Club, JD/MBA association, Penn Law/Wharton Boxing Club, Flag Football

What I Did For Public Interest:

I plan to get involved in Penn Law's abundant clinical opportunities.

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

Locust walk is beautiful.
