Justin Bagdady

Hometown:

Novi, MI

Class Year:

JD Class of 2009

Prior Education:

University of Michigan, B.A. Political Science, 2006

What I Did Before Law School:

I came to law school directly after undergrad.

What I Am Hoping to Do with My Law Degree:

I aspire to be an expert in litigation.

My Best Experience at Penn Law:

Getting to know my classmates, especially the people who were in my 1L section (yeah Section 3!)

Professor Who Influenced Me Most:

Professor Jason Johnston. It's ridiculous how much he knows about contract law, and he's extremely passionate about teaching. (He also shares my passion for Michigan football, which doesn't hurt).

My Favorite Course:

Contracts. The concepts that you learn are really interesting and applicable to just about every field of law out there.

An Example of How the Law School's Cross-disciplinary Approach Influences My Legal Education:

The ability to take courses at some of the best graduate schools in the country really gives you the opportunity to graduate with a J.D. that is tailored to your specific aspirations.

Meaningful Cross-disciplinary Experience at Penn:

As someone who wants to litigate, all of my courses at this point have been in the law school, although I plan on taking a few courses at the Fels Institute of Government.

Penn Law is known for its collegial environment. Why is collegiality important to a legal education? How has it affected your legal education?

It's much easier to be a great law student if you enjoy coming to the law school every day. Liking the people around you and really feeling like everybody is on the same team makes the process much better for everybody.

My Favorite Philadelphia Moment:

Catching a Phillies game. Citizens Bank Park is really nice and gives you an amazing view of the Philly skyline.

What I'm Most Proud Of:

The work I've done with the Unemployment Compensation Project. It's extremely rewarding when you take what you've learned in law school and use it in the real world to help somebody out.

My Extracurricular Activities at Penn Law:

Journal of Business & Employment Law
Unemployment Compensation Project
Penn Law Boxing Club
Penn Law Flag Football

What I Did for Public Interest:

I'm an officer in the Unemployment Compensation Project. We represent people in hearings against their former employers who are trying to deny them unemployment benefits.

My Favorite Place or Activity on the University Campus:

Happy hour at Mad 4 Mex!
