HOW TO APPLY

We welcome your interest in the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

You must submit your application using the following method:

Note: LSAT/LSDAS Fee Waiver recipients and Teach For America core members and alumni receive an automatic waiver of our application fee. Please see the FAQs or the Application Instructions for further information.

IMPORTANT APPLICATION DEADLINES

EARLY DECISION (BINDING)
By October 1 Earliest date to submit an application.
By November 1 Application must be received.
By November 15 Application must be complete.
By December 31 Decisions will be sent.
REGULAR NOTIFICATION
October 1 Earliest date to submit an application.
By February 15* Application must be received.

*If your application is submitted after February 15th, we cannot guarantee a decision by a particular date. In this case, please allow up to 12 weeks for a decision from the date your application was received in the Admissions Office. Due to the rolling admissions process, applications submitted after April 1 are strongly discouraged.
By Mid-May All decisions on completed files will be sent, though you may receive a decision much earlier.
TRANSFER STUDENTS
May 1 Earliest date to submit an application.
By July 15 Application must be received.
By August 1 Application must be complete. All decisions on files completed earlier will be sent, though you may receive a decision much earlier.

NON-MATRICULATING OR VISITING STUDENTS
For the Spring Semester
October 1 Earliest date to submit an application.
November 15 Application must be received.
December 1 Decisions will be sent.
 
For the Fall Semester
May 1 Earliest date to submit an application.
July 15 Application must be received.
By August 1 Application must be complete. All decisions on files completed earlier will be sent, though you may receive a decision much earlier.

First Year JD Admissions Checklist

Your application will be considered complete and will be referred to the Admissions Committee for review when the following items are received by the dates specified in the application instructions:

  • Completed application form
  • Signed Certification Letter if paying fee by check or money order or Electronic Signature if paying fee by credit card through LSAC.
  • Application fee in the amount of $75.00 or an approved Penn Law or LSAC fee waiver
  • Undergraduate transcripts from all schools attended
  • Graduate transcripts from all schools attended
  • LSAT/LSDAS report
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (Must be submitted through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service)
  • Résumé
  • Personal statement
