Marshall Brennan Program

The Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project is a nationwide program dedicated to teaching high school students about their constitutional rights.  As a Marshall-Brennan Fellow you will be paired with another Penn student to teach a local Philadelphia high school class once a week.  You will also have the option to coach promising students for a moot court competition held at Penn--last year several students qualified for nationals!

For a full year of teaching you will receive 70 hours of pro bono credit (your full J.D. requirement)

To Apply: Please send a short cover letter explaining your interest and prior teaching experience, if any, to pennmarshallbrennan@gmail.com, along with a copy of your resume.  NO prior teaching experience is required.  Questions?  Contact pennmarshallbrennan@gmail.com or megan.rok@law.upenn.edu.

Please join us in congratulating the 2009-10 Marshall-Brennan Board!

Program Director: Sivani Babu

Thank you to all who applied!

The Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project is currently accepting applications for its 2009-2010 board.  This is a great opportunity to take a leadership position in the program and to ensure that it continues to make an impact during the next academic year.  Please see the following materials for more information:

Applications must be submitted to pennmarshallbrennan@gmail.com by Monday, April 6 at noon.

The preliminary rounds for the National Marshall Brennan Moot Court Tournament will be held at Penn Law School on Saturday, March 21. We need law students and faculty to serve as judges and bailiffs for the morning and afternoon rounds.  Shifts run from 9:45 a.m.-noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m.  Law students can get pro bono hours for participating and refreshments will be provided. Please e-mail ShiraRKatz36@gmail.com if you are interested in participating and note the shift or shifts that you are available. Thanks!

The National Marshall-Brennan moot court competition will be held on March 21 and 22 in Philadelphia.  Penn Law will host the semifinal rounds on March 21; the finals will be held at Drexel's Earle Mack School of Law on March 22.  Sixty high school students from Washington, D.C., Kentucky, Massachusetts, Louisiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Arizona will be competing.  Come watch these high school students become lawyers for the day as they deliver oral arguments on a First Amendment-related issue.

The next Marshall-Brennan Fellows meeting will be on Thursday, February 19 at 12 p.m. in G213.  Professor Rudovsky will be covering aspects of 4th Amendment law, which is an upcoming topic in the classroom curriculum.
