Symposium

The University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law Tenth Anniversary 2008 Symposium: Cruel and Unusual Punishment: Litigating Under the Eighth Amendment


Date: February 15th, 2:00-5:00 and 16th, 9:00 a.m. -3:00 pm, 2008
Location: The Levy Center, University of Pennsylvania Law School, 3400 Chestnut Street.

Topics will include the death penalty, the current stay on the use of lethal injection, prison conditions, prisoner’s rights, litigating under the Prison Litigation Reform Act, sentencing requirements and the experience of litigation under the Eighth Amendment.

Confirmed Panelists include: Elizabeth Alexander (ACLU National Prison Project), Douglas Berman (Ohio State University), Stephen Bright (Southern Center for Human Rights), Deborah Denno (Fordham University), Sharon Dolovich (UCLA and Harvard University), Richard Frase (University of Minnesota), Sarah Hart (Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office), Mark Kappelhoff (United States Department of Justice-Civil Rights Division), Youngjae Lee (Fordham University), Jules Lobel (University of Pittsburgh), David Rudovsky (University of Pennsylvania), Margo Schlanger (Washington University of St. Louis), Carol Steiker (Harvard University) and Jordi Steiker (University of Texas-Austin).

CLE Credits available: The Symposium has been approved for 2.5 hours of substantive CLE Credit for Friday, February 15th at a cost of $25.
On Saturday, February 16th, 4 hours of substantive CLE Credit are available. For public interest lawyers, the cost of these credits will be $25. For all others, Saturday's CLE Credits will cost $40.00.

In the e-mail, please indicate which days you will be attending, and whether you will be registering for CLE credits. Also, please indicate if you would like to have lunch at the Law School on Saturday ($10/person).
