New Adjuncts, Lecturers & Visitors: Getting Started

Welcome to Penn Law ITS!

The Law School Information Technology Services (ITS) department welcomes you to Penn Law and to our network and computing resources. We have a broad range of computing, media, and network resources available to you. This page is intended to provide you with the initial technical information you will need as a member of the Faculty.

Getting Started - LawKey

If you have not done so already, you will need to request a LawKey username and password by completing our request form. LawKey is the login you will use for all your networking and email accounts.

https://www.law.upenn.edu/cf/its/accountrequest

Once you have been notified that your account has been created, you will need to visit this site to activate your LawKey and click on the link for Faculty/Staff Activation Center:

https://law.upenn.edu/activate

NOTE: You will need your new LawKey username to activate. This information is provided in the email sent to you when you account was created. If you already have a LawKey from a previous semester, but forgot the username and password, please contact us: itshelp@law.upenn.edu.

You will also receive a PennKey - this is the username for accessing University resources. Please contact us if you have any questions about your PennKey or forgot your password.

Your LawKey username will remain active until one month after the end of the term.

Once you have activated your LawKey username, you may access the following resources:

Penn Law Email Address

Adjuncts, Lecturers, and Visitors receive a Penn Law address (username@law.upenn.edu) which will forward to the email address you supplied us. You will receive a confirmation email when activated. Please contact us if you need to change your forwarding address: itshelp@law.upenn.edu.

Your email forwarding will remain active for one semester after you teach your course. Adjuncts who teach each Fall, for example, will maintain a forwarding address as long as they teach every other semester.

The Course Portal

The Course Portal will enable you to provide course notices, documents, and links to research and assignments for your students. You can also use this site to access your course photo roster, create an online seating chart, email your class mailing list, schedule appointments with students, create in-class surveys, download a grading sheet, and submit your course planning information. Students use the Course Portal as their central location for all course information and schedules and to take all of their course evaluations.

Course Portal Help is available at: https://goat.law.upenn.edu/cf/courses/documentation/portalhowto.html. If you would like personal instruction, please contact us: itshelp@law.upenn.edu.

Class Mailing Lists

You can email your class from the Course Portal or directly from your personal email account. Your course email address and information about using your list is available here:

If you'd like to add additional addresses to the class list or allow all the students in your class to email to the list, please see the following help document. Please contact us if you need assistance: itshelp@law.upenn.edu.

Instructional Technology

Our classrooms are well equipped for most of your technology needs. In order to use any classroom technologies, you will need to submit your media requests for each course you are teaching via the Course Portal. If you have any questions about this information, please contact us: itsmedia@law.upenn.edu.

On the Portal Home page, you will see [media requests] in the menu bar for your course(s). Choose and scroll down to Individual Course Meeting Requests.

You may choose various technologies and add notes. You may also return at a later time to check on your requests or make changes. Your submitted (saved) requests are automatically added to our media schedule. Please make your requests at least 24 hours prior to your class meeting. More information is available here:

The Goat

The Goat is Penn Law's Intranet site and where you will find Daily Notices, News Headlines, access to Departmental web sites and links to our Penn Law Online Directory, the Course Portal, Email, LawKey Tools and ITS Help Documentation. We suggest making The Goat your home page:
