
International & Comparative Law Student Groups & ActivitiesAn international perspective pervades the Penn Law community. Extensive and varied programs involve the J.D. and graduate student community.
Here are several examples:Asian Pacific American Law Students Association – held their annual conference on "expanding Frontiers for Asian Pacific American Lawyers" International Human Rights Advocates – IHRA seeks to create a space within the Penn Law community to conduct research, undertake advocacy campaigns, and educate colleagues on contemporary issues of international human rights. IHRA will have four programming elements - a human rights clinic, an advocacy program, a spring break trip, and a career forum for international human rights. LL.M. Student Association – Penn Law's graduate students have numerous programs throughout the year. The recent International Afternoon allowed students to showcase their countries to the Penn Law student body. Jessup International Moot Court Team – Penn Law students participate annually in this international law advocacy competition. Penn Law's team presents written memorials and oral arguments on timely issues of international law and argued as before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, The Netherlands. More Information. Journal of International Law and Policy – The Journal of International Law and Policy, founded in 2003, is a student-initiated project dedicated to exploring broad issues of international law. Its range includes diplomatic, political, regional, corporate, technological, and environmental subjects. The journal solicits articles from international law faculty and practitioners, and publishes student comments on contemporary international legal topics. Latin American Law Students Association (LALSA) – This extremely active group at Penn Law holds symposia, a Multicultural Day, guest speakers, a mentorship program, La Gran Fiesta & Orgullo Award Reception, a film festival and other activities. Penn Law European Society – Our alumni group for European LL.M.s. Penn Law Immigration Clinic – The Penn Law Immigration Clinic is a student-run clinic that provides direct legal services to indigent immigrants in the Philadelphia area. Working under the supervision of the Nationalities Service Center, students assist individuals from countries all over the work who are seeing political asylum. The founder, Loren Stewart L'05, received the Equal Justice Works 2004 Exemplary Service Award for his work with the Penn Law Immigration Project. |
