Penn Law Global Initiative (PLGI)

In 2010, the University of Pennsylvania is launching the Penn Law Global Initiative (PLGI). This innovative undertaking will serve as the umbrella for several new and expanded international programs within the Law School. In its inaugural year, PLGI will feature three central components:

International Summer Human Rights Fellows Program
Penn Law International Internship Program
Global Research Seminar

These PLGI model programs are driven by the unique and varied needs of our Law School students. Today's young legal scholars are the first to come of age during an era of globalization. Many are seeking professional and educational experiences outside of the classroom, in order to develop legal skills in an international setting. To meet these needs, Penn Law has turned its attention to programs that will put our students in the field and give them firsthand experience of the law in action overseas.

The Penn Law Global Initiative strives to integrate the study of international law with practical learning. Our portfolio of summer offerings represents a fresh approach to international legal training that distinguishes Penn Law from its peers. Moving forward, the Law School will continue developing new programs under the Penn Law Global Initiative, which will provide our students with the skills and confidence to address problems in international, foreign and comparative law. The next decade will be marked by a growing selection of opportunities to further Penn Law's global engagement.
