STUDYING INTERNATIONAL, COMPARATIVE AND FOREIGN LAW AT PENN LAW
Penn Law offers an exceptional legal curriculum, which has been infused with global analysis at all levels of study. Students choose from varied curricular offerings in international, comparative and foreign law, which expose them to key issues across these areas. Outside the Law School classroom and across the University, further programs provide for unique opportunities for learning in the spheres of both public and private international law.
Detailed information on courses, academic centers, joint degrees, and conferences can be found below:
International and Comparative Law Courses
It is Penn Law’s goal to make an ‘internationalized’ legal education accessible to all interested students. First-year students have the option of taking public international law, as well as a comparative elective that introduces them to legal systems in other parts of the world. Upper level students can choose from dozens of courses in public and private international law, or pursue coursework in foreign and comparative law to hone their understanding.
International Joint Degrees and Certificates
At Penn Law, students experience an interdisciplinary approach to legal education within each classroom. Some students are interested in further crossing traditional academic boundaries, by complimenting their Juris Doctor with additional qualifications. In response to student demand, several structured, internationally-focused programs have been developed.
International Centers Across the Penn Campus
As members of the University of Pennsylvania community, law students are given invaluable access to the resources of one of the world’s preeminent research Universities. The Law School maintains close collaborative partnerships with intellectual centers throughout Penn.
International Lectures and Symposia
Cross-disciplinary institutes and programs have become a focal point- attracting international scholars, experts, practitioners, and students to lectures, symposia and events. A cross-section of the diverse range of programming, which Penn Law has hosted in the past year, can be found on our website.
