The Changing Political Face of the Middle East and the Future Role for Islamic Law
Welcome!
The Muslim Law Students Association (MLSA), National Muslim Law Students Association (NMLSA) and Muslim Students Association at Penn (MSA) invite you to join us at our annual Islamic Law Conference. This year marks the 6th Anniversary of the Islamic Law Conference at Penn Law. The conference will be held on Saturday, March 17th, 2012 at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Our goal this year is to make this an event that is well attended and relevant to all students, academia and professionals with an interest in the law or Islam. Given current events and the rapid changes in the social, political and legal landscape in the Middle East, we have dedicated this year's conference to dialogue about the potential roles for Islamic law in effectuating constructive change in the region. Our goal is to contribute and share some critical dialogue from well-known Islamic law experts regarding legal reform, religiously derived ethics and its impact on the law, social governance, and issues of democracy. Islamic law can play a pivotal role in these changes in the Middle East, and we hope that the conference can help shed some light and contribute to the discourse on the region's future. This year, the conference will include three components. There will be (1) a series of lectures by renowned scholars, (2) a workshop specifically for students on applying to law school by Penn Law students, and (3) a networking session for people to learn about the legal industry and network with professionals. Please feel free to browse this website for more details about our speakers and lecture topics as they become available.
We are working diligently to provide you with an intellectually stimulating experience that can help further you insight into legal issues related to Muslims and further your interest in the legal industry. We hope you will save the date on your calendar and join us at Penn Law. Please be sure to register online, prior to March 10th, 2012. Registration is free online, and $10 at the door. Feel free to contact us at penn-mlsa-board@googlegroups.com.
Sincerely,
